What's Learning?
- a relatively durable change in behavior or knowledge
- a relatively durable change in behavior or knowledge
Components:
Before Learning:
-Neutral Stimulus (NS)- no natural behavior
- Unconditioned stimulus (UCS)- creates a natural response
- Unconditioned response (UCR)- natural response
After learning:
- Conditioned stimulus- NS that's paried with UCS and makes UCR
- Conditioned response- afterconditioning-> NS becomes a CS making CR
NS+CS=Same
UCR+Cr=Same
examples:
- Dentist Drill
- Phobia
- "sex sells"
-Taste aversions
- Fetishes

Steps:
* Acquisition: pair NS w/ UCS over multiple trials
-timing is crucial to speed of acquisition
- simultaneous conditioning
- trace conditioning
- Short delay conditioning<--- works best
* Extinction- gradual weakening followed by dissappearance of C in absence of UCS
* Spontaneous recovery- after extinction following a period of non-exposure when CR comes back
