Basic Steps:
1. Hypothesis (testable one!)
    - Prediction of outcome: "if...then..." format
    - How 2 variables are related
2. Design study
    - What type?
    - Subjects? How many? Who? How chosen?
3. Collect Data
4. Analyze data, draw conclusions
    - Stats: do they support hypothesis
5. Report findings

Natural Observation
* Careful observation of behavior w/o intervening w/ the subjects
* Allows behavior to occur naturally in its natural environment
Case Study
* Studying 1 person in hella depth
Survey
* Questionairres/ interviews to gather information about specific aspects of behavior
* used to study behaviors or characteristics diffuclt to observe naturally
* Difficulties:
    -lying
    - response- sets
    - social desirability bias
Experiment
* involve manipulation of variables and observing them
* only study to give cause and effect relationship

Experimental Method

*poorly designed experiments will fuck up your results

Hypothesis-> Operationally Define -> (In)Dependent Variable-> control and experimental group

Dependent Variable: What is being measured?
Independent variable: What I, the experimenter, manipulates
* control groups can have same people as in experimental group
